Yoon In-Jin

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this report was to investigate effect of visual attention training, reaching, and grasping training by using light box to the children who had neurological impairment.

Methods: Participations were referred to occupational therapy at the address of developmental delay. Main problems of first case were poor visual attention, reduced reaching and grasping function. So, the goal of occupational therapy was set to recognize objects falling, to reach and grasp the objects with interest, and to hold objects for more than three seconds. Main problems of second case were poor visual attention and reduced reaching function. Therefore, the goal of occupational therapy was set to reach out and grasp the objects with interest, and to eat snacks with her hands. Occupational therapy was conducted once a week for 30 minutes. Tasks were applied above the light box for 20 minutes, and were applied on the general lighting for 10 minutes. Tasks were designed to improve visual attention to objects and to increase reaching and grasping function.

Result: The first case had achieved the goal, except for reaching objects with interest. The second case had achieved the goal.

Conclusion: We were able to identify that visual attention training, reaching and grasping training using the light box are effective intervention in our cases. Based on this study, we suggest that occupational therapy using light box will be appropriate therapy to the children who had neurological impairment.
